The City of Muncie was awarded an Energy Efficiency and Community Block Grant for implementing energy efficient programs and projects in Muncie. Muncie, Indiana is a Midwestern city of 67,430, that is experiencing significant economic challenges due to a series factors. The city of Muncie is dedicated to focusing time and energy on efficiency projects that will yield immediate out-of-pocket energy cost and usage savings to the City and its constituents. The Muncie Energy Office provides an organizational structure committed to energy efficiency, education and conservation that will reach well beyond our municipal buildings and responsibilities. The MEO will serve as the focus for forming public/private partnerships and communicating with surrounding communities and the state energy office for funding, long range policies and future programs on energy-efficiency and conservation. The office will administer the grant and continue finding and producing energy efficiency savings in the community at large. During the start-up phase of this project the Muncie Energy Office will be housed in our City Hall but hopes to move to a central "store-front" location once sustaining funds and collaborations develop. The long term goal of the MEO is to formulate a community-wide energy efficiency and conservation plan, implement energy projects and programs, track and communicate program and initiative results and raise visibility of the community-wide programs. The Muncie Energy Office hopes to implement energy programs that will create new energy sector jobs and increase demand for energy conservation and renewable energy projects.
